Meet the 2006 Boys
Cross Country Team
Austin Beck - Sophomore:
Austin
is a second year high school cross country runner. Austin
is an extremely strong willed runner. He has already
proven himself to be one of our top fresh/soph leaders and is
also doing very well as a varsity runner. During his
freshman year, Austin earned a medal at the Charleston
Invitational open race by placing 7th. Austin earned a medal at
the Springfield Invitational by placing 14th in the freshman
race. Austin medaled at the Eureka Fresh/Soph
Invitational by placing 18th. Austin medaled at the
Olympia Fresh/Soph Invitational by placing 22nd. As a
sophomore Austin continued his strong running career. Austin
won the open race at the Charleston Invitational. Austin
medaled at the Olympia Fresh/Soph Invitational by placing 23rd.
He medaled at the Mahomet-Seymour Invitational by placing 10th in
the open. Austin ran a personal best of 19:02 at
Conference and a 18:51 at Eureka as a sophomore. He
represented out team by running in the top ten for our team at the
Conference meet. Austin
earned his second varsity letter as a sophomore.
Woody Boero - Sophomore:
Woody
is a second year high school cross country runner. Woody
is a tough runner and will most likely be one of the better
runners in his class. He pushes the older boys in practice
and shows he has good running ability. Woody showed he is
a strong freshman runner by placing 17th in the Springfield
Invitational freshman race. Woody continues to be one of
the strongest fresh/soph runners we have on our team as a
sophomore. Woody ran a personal best of 19:44 which he ran
at Conference. Woody ran number 2 for the team in the open
race at Conference. Woody improved 1 minute and 54 seconds
from his freshman year. Woody was a varsity letter winner
as a sophomore.
Sean Buchanan - Junior: Sean is a second year cross
country runner. Sean joins us from the track team as he
was a strong sprinter. He is quickly adjusting to the
longer runs and has proven himself to be a strong distance
runner as well. This fall will not only help his
sprinting, but he brings a lot to the cross country team with
his talent. Sean came on strong mid season as he
placed 5th for the team at the East Peoria Invitational as a
sophomore. Sean medaled at the Olympia Invitational in the open
race by placing 19th. Sean ran a personal best of 21:23 as a
junior.
Kurt Bucker - Sophomore:
Kurt
is a second year cross country runner. Kurt has already
won fresh/soph new runner of the week honors for his great work
ethic and determination. He is a pleasure to be around and
is a great role model for our other runners. Kurt
along with teammate Thomas Thoren were great team leaders in the
off season. Kurt and Thomas ran almost every day the winter
before his sophomore year. Kurt medaled at the Charleston
Invitational by placing 12th in the open race. Kurt was
one of only four of our runners to run a personal best at the
Peoria Notre Dame Invitational. Kurt medaled at the
Olympia Fresh/Soph Invitational by placing 29th. Kurt ran a
personal best of 19:48 as a sophomore. Kurt improved 1
minute and 26 seconds from his freshman year. Kurt was a
letter winner as a sophomore.
Alex Charter - Freshman: Alex is a first year high school
cross country runner. He comes to the team with a lot of
experience. He won a medal at the Charleston Invitational
by placing 13th in the open race. Alex ran second for our
freshman team at the Springfield Invitational and placed
17th. Alex helped his freshman team to a 2nd place at the
Springfield Invitational. Alex ran our 9th
fastest time for the team at the Peoria Notre Dame Invitational.
Alex medaled at the Olympia Fresh/Soph Invitational by placing
24th. He medaled at the Mahomet-Seymour Invitational by placing
5th in the open. Alex ran a personal best of 18:32
as a freshman. Alex represented the team well at Conference
by running in the top 9. Alex was a first year letter winner
as a freshman.
Blake Colclasure - Senior: Blake is a second year cross
country runner. In fact, Blake's first sport ever was his
junior year of cross country. He is very talented and has
run some impressive times for his debut to high school
sports. I think you will see some great things
athletically out of Blake this year and next. As a junior,
Blake medaled at the Olympia Open race by placing
11th. Blake was fastest for our team in the Olympia Open
race. As a senior, Blake medaled at the Charleston
Invitational by placing 5th in the open race. Blake was our
fastest runner in the open race at the Springfield Invitational.
Blake represented the team by running in the varsity top 7 at the
Peoria Invitational. Blake medaled at the Olympia Invitational in
the open race by placing 14th. Blake ran a personal best of
19:16 as a senior. Blake was a letter winner as a senior.
Phil Dempsey - Senior: Phil is a second year cross
country runner. He is a great addition to the team as he
is always in a great mood and a positive person to be
around. Phil has a strong work ethic and always pushes
himself in practice. His times continue to drastically
improve which reveals his work ethic and commitment.
Phil runs with intensity. He constantly wants to improve
and is a great role model for others. Phil won the team's
Clydesdale award as a junior. As a senior Phil has
drastically improved. He has cut off as many as 4 to 5
minutes from last year's meet to this year's meet. Phil just
missed earning a medal at the Charleston Invitational by placing
18th. Phil earned his Varsity letter by earning 20 points
at the East Peoria Invitational. Phil ran #6 for our Varsity
at the East Peoria Invitational. Phil medaled at the Olympia
Invitational in the open race by placing 11th. Phil ran a
personal best of 19:54 which he ran at the Mahomet-Seymour
invitational. He won the Clydesdale award both his junior
and senior years. Phil was a Letterman as a senior.
Dale Donoho - Freshman:
Dale
is a first year cross country runner at the high school
level. Dale earned a medal by placing 14th at the
Charleston Invitational open race. Dale helped his
freshman team to a 2nd place at the Springfield
Invitational. Dale ran a personal best of 20:19 his
freshman year. This is one of the stronger times in the
area for a freshman. Dale was a first year letter winner
as a freshman.
Danny Heinrich - Junior: Danny is a first year cross
country runner at the high school level. Danny brings with
him running experience at the jr high level. He has
drastically improved throughout the first half of the season by
minutes at a time. Danny is proving himself to be a solid
runner that continues to help the team. Danny ran a
personal best of 21:53 as a junior. Danny was the fastest
new runner for the team.
Jacob Jarrett - Freshman: Jacob is a first year cross
country runner at the high school level. Jacob earned a
medal by placing 7th in the open race at the Charleston
Invitational. Jacob helped his freshman team to a 2nd
place at the Springfield Invitational. Jacob earned a
medal at the Springfield Invitational by placing 14th.
Jacob led the team for the open race at Conference. Jacob
ran a personal best of 19:08 as a freshman. His fastest 3
mile was at Conference where he ran a 19:28.
Caleb Johnson - Freshman: Caleb is a first year cross
country runner at the high school level. Caleb helped his
freshman team to a 2nd place at the Springfield
Invitational. Caleb has proven himself to be one the
strongest freshman runners in the area. Caleb ran a
personal best of 20:05 at Conference where he ran 3rd for the
team in the open race. I know you will see great things
out of Caleb in future years. Caleb was a first year
letter winner as a freshman.
Brandon Keeney - Senior: Brandon is a third year cross
country runner at the high school level. Brandon did have
running experience at the jr. high level and it shows. He
was often in our top 10 runners for most of his sophomore year
despite battling a leg injury. Brandon was once again in
our top ten as a junior. During his junior
year, Brandon earned a medal at the
Charleston Invitational open race by placing 6th. Brandon
ran over 400 miles before his senior year. He earned the
title of Captain for his senior year. Brandon placed 2nd
in the Charleston Invitational open race. Brandon
was our #5 Varsity runner at the East Peoria Invitational. Brandon
medaled at the Olympia Invitational in the open race by placing
4th. He medaled at the Mahomet-Seymour Invitational by
placing 4th in the open. Brandon ran a personal best at
Conference where he ran 6th for the team with a time of
18:03. He improved 50 seconds from his junior year.
Brandon was a Letterman as a senior. Brandon ran a
sub 5 minute mile to get into our old dog club.
Dustin Kinkelaar - Junior: Dustin is a third year cross
country runner. Dustin stepped right up into our top 8 on
the Varsity team in most meets during his freshman year, despite
having never had previous cross country experience. Dustin
has an amazing amount of natural ability in this sport combined
with a determined mind that will make him one of the best in the
sport someday. Dustin also brings to the team a carefree
attitude. Although he can be serious when it counts, he is
a fun loving person that his teammates enjoy being around.
During his sophomore year, Dustin earned a
medal at the Charleston Invitational open race by placing
9th. Dustin was our team's fastest open runner in the
Springfield Invitational. Dustin medaled at the
Eureka Fresh/Soph Invitational by placing 13th. Dustin
medaled at the Olympia Fresh/Soph race by placing 15th. Dustin
earned a medal in the open race at the Mahomet-Seymour
invitational by placing 9th.
During Dustin's Junior year, he ran in the top 7 runners.
Dustin earned a medal at the Charleston Invitational by placing
18th. Dustin ran number 3 for the team at the U-High meet.
Dustin was our #2 Varsity runner at the East Peoria
Invitational. Dustin won his 3rd varsity letter as a
junior. Dustin ran a sub 5 minute mile to get into
our old dog club.
Tray Kipp - Freshman:
Tray
is a first year cross country runner. Tray brings jr high
running experience with him to the team. Tray has shown
what determination and effort can accomplish as he continues to
drastically improve throughout the year. By mid-season
Tray had already run in the low 23's at the Eureka Fresh/Soph
Invitational. Tray ran a personal best of 23:18 as a
freshman.
Andrew Kumler - Junior: Andrew is a third year cross
country runner. Andrew has been a leader on the team all
three years. As a freshman he represented us in
sectionals. Now as a junior he continues to be in the top
seven runners. He is a tremendous runner who does a great
job for the team. Andrew has proven himself to be in our
top seven runners again as a junior. He medaled
at the Mahomet-Seymour Invitational by placing 30th.
Andrew ran a personal best of 17:16 which he ran at the
Mahomet-Seymour Invitational. Andrew won his second varsity
letter his junior year in cross country. Andrew ran a sub 5
minute mile to get into our old dog club. Andrew ran in the
top ten at regionals by placing 9th.
Joe Logan - Senior:
Joe
is a second year high school cross country runner. He
joins us with great running experience from high school track
and junior high cross country. His experience has been
shown in the early practices and meets as he runs well.
Joe goes out of his way to help the team during the school day
when he doesn't have homework. Joe runs with a great
amount of intensity and is a great example for others to follow
in this area. Joe earned the team's team spirit award his
junior year as he is a great leader of the team. As a
senior, Joe has continued his leadership and earned our weekly
award of Athlete of the week during week 2 of the season.
Joe leads the team with encouragement and team spirit. At
the Peoria Invitational he was described as a great team player by
one of his teammates. Joe was our #7 varsity runner at the
East Peoria Invitational. Joe medaled at the Olympia
Invitational in the open race by placing 13th. Joe ran a
personal best at Conference where he ran a 20:10 and was 4th for
the team in the open race. Joe was a second year
letter winner as a senior.
Devin Lyons - Senior:
Devin
is a 4th year high school runner. Devin "Billy Goat" has
motivated the older runners with his desire to improve by
working hard during his freshman year. Devin ran over 250
miles his sophomore summer and improved as a result. His
work ethic continues to inspire our team as he ran 300 miles
before his junior year in the summer. His hard work paid
off as he started off in the top 7 of the team. He was
also selected as a captain his junior year by his teammates who
respect him. During his junior year, Devin
earned a medal at the Charleston Invitational by placing 20th.
Devin ran over 400 miles before his senior year and earned a
position as a team captain. Devin continues to be a strong
force in the area. Devin medaled 10th at the Charleston
Invitational. Devin ran number 3 for the team at the
Peoria Invitational when he matched his lifetime PR on a 3 mile
course. He medaled at the Mahomet-Seymour
Invitational by placing 32nd. Devin was a
third year letter winner as a senior. Devin ran a sub 5
minute mile to get into our old dog club. Devin ran in
the top ten at the Regional meet by placing 7th.
Jacob Mahaffey - Sophomore: Jacob is a second year high
school cross country runner. Jacob brings a lot of running
experience with him from the junior high. Jacob ran
constantly in the summer before his freshman year and it paid
off. Jacob already started the year in the top seven
runners. As a freshman, he is small in stature, but he has
an incredibly large will to be a great runner. Jacob will
be one of the top runners in the area in his grade. Keep
an eye out for this future high school super star.
During his freshman year, Jacob earned a medal at the Charleston
Invitational by placing 23rd. Jacob earned a medal by
placing 5th in the freshman race at the Springfield Invitational.
Jacob medaled at the Eureka Fresh/Soph Invitational by placing
7th. Jacob won a medal at theEast Peoria Invite by
placing 12th in the Fresh/Soph Race. Jacob medaled at the
Olympia Fresh/Soph Invitational by placing 7th. He also
earned a medal at the Mahomet-Seymour invitational by placing
30th.
As a sophomore, Jacob ran over 300 miles in the summer. He
earned a medal at the Charleston Invitational by placing
7th. He placed 3rd at the Prairie Central meet. He
earned a medal by placing 2nd at the Eureka fresh/soph meet.
Jacob spent most of his sophomore year running a solid number 3
for the team. He also broke into the top 10 list of most of
our recent all time lists. Jacob
medaled at the East Peoria Invitational by placing 3rd in the
Fresh/Soph race. Jacob medaled at the Olympia Fresh/Soph
Invitational by placing 3rd. He medaled at the
Mahomet-Seymour Invitational by placing 16th with a time
of 16:31. He is one of only 5 Mahomet-Seymour runners to run
in the 16's on our home course since 2001. He was a second
year letter winner as a sophomore. Jacob won the fastest
sophomore and Most Valuable Fresh/Soph Runner as a
sophomore. Jacob ran a sub 5 minute mile to get into our old
dog club. Jacob ran in the top ten at regionals by placing
10th.
Michael Mansfield - Senior: Michael is a 2nd year cross
country runner. Michael is a solid young man who works
hard and is always respectful to his team. He sets a good
standard for giving a great effort and being committed to
himself and the team. We are lucky to have him on our
team. Mansfield gave each meet his all,
often running PRs, such as in the East Peoria meet when he was
only 2 on the team that ran a personal best that day.
Michael ran over 300 miles before his senior year. His hard
work has paid off as he has improved as much as 3 to 5 minutes in
each race compared to last year. He often has run in the top
ten for our team. Michael was our #8 varsity runner
at the East Peoria Invitational. Michael medaled at
the Olympia Invitational in the open race by placing 15th.
Michael won the most improved award as a senior. He improved
3 minutes and 11 seconds. This can be attributed to his
intensity and work he put in the pre-season. Michael ran a
personal best of 20:19 which he ran at Conference. He
was a first year Varsity letter winner as a senior.
Evan Monson - Junior:
Evan
is a third year high school cross country runner. Evan
shows a great amount of commitment and determination to himself
and the team. His ability to run through discomfort is one
of the best on the team. He continues to improve his time
as a result.
During the summer before his sophomore
year, Evan ran constantly and it shows. Evan cut off
around 7 minutes from the start of his freshman year to his
sophomore year. Evan earned our most
improved fresh/soph runner of the year his sophomore year.
As a junior, Evan continues to improve. He often runs and
races in the off-season. Evan continues to run minutes
faster each year due to his desire to run PRs. Evan
medaled at the Olympia Invitational in the open race by placing
23rd. Evan ran a personal best of 23:52. He improved 1
minute and 37 seconds from his sophomore year.
Troy Pittman - Senior: Troy is a forth year high school
cross country runner.
He also was on the state qualifying cross
country team in Jr. High. Troy has proved himself to be an
excellent fresh/soph runner by medaling in our first 2
fresh/soph invitationals. Troy also set a 22 meet record
in the open race at the Chrisman Cow Chip Classic. Troy
has also been in the top seven runners on the varsity team every
year. Troy had the fastest freshman
time during his freshman year.
He was one of the top runners in the area in the 2 mile the past
two springs. He is a member of our "Old Dog Sub 5-Minute
Mile Club". Troy won the U-High Invitational his sophomore
year with a time of 16:15. Troy placed 4th in regionals as a
sophomore. Troy is an extremely talented runner who will do
great things as a junior and senior. During his junior year,
Troy earned a medal at the Charleston Invitational by placing
6th. Troy earned a medal at the Springfield Invitational by
placing 22nd. Troy earned a trophy at the U-High
invitational after placing 3rd. Troy earned a medal by
placing 12th at the Mahomet-Seymour Invitational. Troy
earned all-confernce honors after placing 4th in conference with a
time of 15:46.
As a senior Troy continues to dominate. He won our first
meet against some great competition. Troy placed second at
the Charleston Invitational. Troy won the Prairie Central
meet. Troy medaled by placing in the top ten at the
Springfield Invitational. Troy ran the first half of the
season consistently in the low 16's. He medaled at the
Mahomet-Seymour Invitational by placing 18th. Troy
placed 7th in Conference as a senior earning him all-conference
status. Troy earned his forth year varsity letter as
a senior. Troy ran a sub 5 minute mile to get into our old dog
club. Troy placed in the top ten at regionals by placing
4th.
Steve Roberts - Junior: Steve is a third year high school
cross country runner. He has brought with him a lot of
experience. As a freshman, he has stepped right up to the
varsity level and ran in our top 7 runners. He has an
amazing amount of talent and will continue to impress us with
his running accomplishments.
As a sophomore, Steve continues to be a
leader on the team and runs in the top 5 runners.
During his sophomore year, Steve earned a medal at the Charleston
Invitational by placing 24th. Steve is one of the top
sophomore area runners and continues to be in the top 7 on our
Varsity squad. Steve medaled at the Eureka Fresh/Soph
Invitational by placing 4th and being our team's top finisher.
Steve medaled at the Olympia Fresh/Soph Invitational by placing
11th.
As a junior Steve continues to be a leader on the team. He
ran throughout the winter and summer to get in shape. He
medaled at the Charleston Invitational. Steve
won his 3rd year varsity letter as a junior. Steve ran a sub
5 minute mile to get into our old dog club. Steve
ran 5th for the team at sectionals.
Justin Sebens - Senior: Justin is a forth year high school
cross country runner.
Justin has plenty of experience as a
runner. He was part of MS Jr. High's state qualifying team
in Jr. High. As an 8th grader, Justin broke 11:00 minutes
in the 2 mile. He also qualified for state in the 1600
meters and high jump. His favorite quote is "go hard and
never give up". Justin has proven himself a strong high
school runner by working his way into the top 7 of the varsity
team.
He ran almost 500 miles during the summer
of his sophomore year and was one of the top runners in the
area. He proved himself a great area runner as he ran one
of the top area 2 mile times in track and ran in the 10:20s.
Justin
ran in the 15's his sophomore year. He won the fastest
sophomore award at the Spartan Classic and Mahomet-Seymour
Invite. Justin placed 7th in the regionals his sophomore
year.
Justin was voted by his teammates to be a captain during his
junior year. He has been a leader in the summer running.
During his junior year, Justin earned a medal at the Charleston
Invitational by placing 5th. Justin earned a medal at
the Springfield Invitational by placing 10th. Justin
earned a trophy at the U-High invitational by placing 5th.
He also earned a medal at the Mahomet-Seymour invitational by
placing 10th. Justin earned all-conference honors by
placing 7th with a time of 15:53.
Justin ran 400 miles before his senior year. He has proven
himself to be a dominant runner in the area. He has placed
1st or second in most of the small meets and small invitationals
this year. He won the Charleston Invitational. He
medaled at the Charleston Invitational by plaing 1st and
Springfield Invitational by placing 6th as a senior. He
broke 16 minutes at the Peoria Invitational by running a 15:58.
Justin earned a medal at the East Peoria Invitational by placing
6th with a time of 15:55. Justin medaled at the
U-High Invitational by placing 3rd. He medaled at the
Mahomet-Seymour Invitational by placing 5th with a time of
15:53. This is the fastest time recorded on the
Mahomet-Seymour course since it was created in 2001. Justin
placed 4th in conference earning him all-conference status.
Justin won his forth year varsity letter as a senior. Justin
ran a sub 5 minute mile to get into our old dog club. Justin
won the regional championship as an individual. Justin
placed 9th in Sectionals to qualify for state. Justin ran a
personal best at state by running a time of 15:38. He placed
124th.
Thomas Thoren - Junior: Thomas is a third year high school
cross country runner. He showed great determination during
his freshman year and improved his time drastically. He
was the only runner his freshman year to earn the prized award
of excellent effort award. He earned this through showing
above and beyond the call of duty determination in
practice. Thomas is an excellent student/athlete. As
a sophomore, Thomas has carried his same great attitude and work
ethic with him. He often takes on the hardest workout and
is improving as a result.
As a junior Thomas ran continually all winter, spring and
summer. Thomas leads our team in the award of running the
most consecutive days. Thomas ran at least 1 mile a day for
91 days. Thomas ran through the worst winter weather to
accomplish this streak. Thomas has drastically improved as a
result of his hard work. He is a great example to the team
of how hard work pays off. Thomas medaled at the Olympia
Invitational in the open race by placing 16th. Thomas ran a
personal best of 21:32 this year. He improved 1 minute and
11 seconds from last year. He is a first year varsity letter
winner as a junior.
Alex Williams - Freshman: Alex is a first year high school
cross country runner. He joins us with experience as he
ran at St. Matthews which had a very successful team. Alex
was dedicated to his running this summer and led the team by
example. He has great team spirit and is always
positive. Alex was one of only four of our runners to run
a personal best at the Peoria Invitational.
Alex ran a personal best in most of his last meets. He ended
up running a personal best of 20:38 as a freshman. Alex
earned his first varsity letter as a freshman.
