John Butcher - Senior

John is a forth year high school cross country runner and a returning letterman. 
Son of Jeff and Debbie Butcher.

     As a freshman, John brings many years of running experience under his belt.  After running over 300 miles this summer, he has stepped up in the top 10 of our team.  He often is pushing the leaders in many of our workouts.  This year will be a promising one for John.  In John's first meet of the year he was able to run in the top 7 for our team.  John earned a medal by placing 19th in the Varsity race at the Charleston Invitation.  He ran 6th for the team at the Pontiac Quad with yet another time in the 17s.  John medaled at the Springfield Invitational in the freshman race by placing 5th.  He made his way into our team's top ten fastest freshman ever list at the Springfield Invitational, the Peoria Notre Dame Invitational, the East Peoria Invitational, Olympia Invitational, U-High Invitational, and Metamora Invitational.  John worked his way onto the News-Gazette Prep Cross Country Leader list in September & October .  John ran a 16:56 at the Prairie Central Meet.  John earned a medal at the Olympia FS Invitational by placing 5th with a time of 17:24.  John ran well placing 5th for the team at the U-High Invitational with a 3 mile personal best of 17:14.  John placed 7th for the team at the Metamora invitational.  John ran a lifetime 3 mile PR at conference where he ran 6th for the team.  At the Regional meet, John ran 5th for the team with another lifetime PR of 16:55.  John finished his freshman year by running a 16:59 and helping his team place the highest they have placed as a double A team.
     As a sophomore, John ran over 400 miles in the summer.  He earned the honor of being a captain for his sophomore year.  John started the season in our season opener by earning a spot in our top 20 fastest sophomore list on our home course.  He made his way onto our team's top ten fastest sophomore list at our 1st home meet,  the Charleston invitational, the Peoria ND Invitational, the East Peoria Invitational, the U-High Invitational, and the Metamora Invitational.  He earned a medal at the Charleston Invitational by placing 11th with a time of 16:52.
He earned his way onto the News-Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders List in September, October, and November. John earned his way onto our sub 5 minute mile old dog list again for 2009.  John ran for 11th place in a very tough conference meet.  John earned the most valuable fresh/soph runner in 2009.
   As a junior, John ran over 500 miles in the summer.  He earned the honor of being captain for his junior year. 
The News Gazette selected John as one of the nifty fifty in their preseason polls.  He made his way onto our team's top ten fastest junior list at our 1st home meet, the Charleston Invitational, the Springfiled Invitational, the Peoria ND Invitational, the East Peoria Invitational, the U-High Invitational, and the Metamora Invitational.  John earned a medal at the Charleston Invitational by placing 15th.  John earned a medal by placing in the top 25 (19th) at the Springfield Invitational.  John ran a season best at East Peoria with a time of 16:27.  John had a 42 second break through at the U-High Invitational where he ran a 15:52.  John earned a medal at the Metamora Invitational by placing 27th. John had an excellent race at conference where he placed 9th earning all-conference honors.   John ran another strong race at the Regional meet where he broke into the 15's for a 2nd time.  John had a strong race at Sectional where he placed 39th.  He earned his way onto the News-Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders List in September, October, and November.  John earned News Gazette All Area honors in 2010.
    As a senior, John is a 3 time returning letterman and all-conference runner.  John ran the highest summer mileage that we have recorded at over 850 miles in 70 days.  He earned the honor of being a captain for the third year.  He was our first runner in over 10 years to run 1000 "York miles" - from June 1 to Sept 1.  John  holds our top hour run record of 10.19 miles in an hour.  He was named to News-Gazette's pre-season nifty fifty.  John opened his senior year by running a 15:56 at the Charleston Invitational and placed 6th.  This is the fastest time recorded at this meet  for our team.  John earned a spot on the fastest top 10 senior times at the Charleston Invitational.  John helped our team win the Springfield Invitational as John and two of his teammates ran the fastest recorded times for Mahomet-Seymour at this invitational.  John earned a spot in our fastest top 10 senior times at the Springfield Invitational and the 6th highest place we have ever gotten at that invitational.  He earned a medal by placing 8th. 
John earned high enough grades during last year to earn an academic letter at the beginning of his this year.  This earned him our team's scholar/athlete award.  He earned his athletic letter for cross country for all four years of his career.  John ran an impressive personal best of 15:34 at the Peoria Notre Dame Invitational.  He helped his team place the highest it ever had at the PND Invite with a 14th place team finish.  John's time earned him a spot on our most improved over a career list with over a 3:00 improvement over his career.  John earned a medal at the East Peoria Invitational by placing 13th.  He also earned the 3rd spot in the fastest seniors at the East Peoria Invite.  John made his way onto the News-Gazette prep cross country leaders in September.  John ran a lifetime best at the U-High Invitational with a 15:33 where he earned a medal by placing 6th.  John made his way onto the fastest times list for the U-High Invitational.  He also earned a medal at the U-High invitational.  John led the team at the Metamora Invitational with a time of 15:29.  This is the fastest time any Mahomet-Seymour runner has run on this course.  He also earned his way onto the top 10 fastest times at Metamora with the fastest senior time.  He earned a medal at the Metamora Invitational by placing 6th.  He worked his way onto the News-Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders list for October.  John  ran a sub 5 minute mile to become a member of the Old dog club in 2011.  John placed 8th at the Conference meet which earned him the honor of being all-conference for the second  year in a row.  John ran a solid race at the Regional meet by placing 6th.  He helped his team win the Regional championship.  John helped his team qualify for state for the first time in the history of our school as a double A team.  John and his team placed 2nd in the Sectional meet which is the 2nd highest in the history of our school.  He worked his way onto the News-Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders list for November.  John ended his high school cross country career by placing 58th in state to help his team place 5th in state.   John ran the 8th fastest senior time ever at State in our school's history and the 13th fastest time ever for a MS runner at State.   He won the Bulldog award and Most Valuable Runner on awards night.
