As a Freshman, Gabe joins us with junior high cross country and track experience.  Gabe ran 6th, 7th, and 8th grade cross country.  Gabe had a strong summer of running.  He ran over 500 miles.  We have only had 1 other freshman ever accomplish this feat.  He joined our 500 mile club.  Despite Gabe being young, he stepped right into our top group in early season workouts.   Gabe opened up his high school career with a 16:58 at the Charleston Invite.  This was fast enough to earn him the 3rd fastest time on our fastest top 15 freshman times list for the Charleston Invitational.  Gabe ran 6th for our team.  He helped his team win their 1st invitational for the season.  He also helped his team run the fastest top 7 team average of any Mahomet team at this invitational.  Gabe earned his first high school medal by placing 19th.  Gabe ran an excellent race and lifetime personal best at the Springfield Invitational 2 mile race.  He ran a 10:38 to earn a spot as our 2nd fastest freshman ever.  He won the individual meet championship and helped lead his team to the freshman race team championship.  He earned a medal at this invite.  He earned his first varsity letter early in the season.  Gabe made it onto the News-Gazette's prep cross country leaders list in September.  Gabe ran an amazing race at the Peoria Notre Dame Invitational.  He ran in the 15's for the first time of his life.  His time of 15:56 is the 3rd fastest freshman time any Mahomet runner has ever run on any course.  Gabe's time is the 2nd fastest Mahomet freshman time at this invite.  Gabe ran 5th for his varsity team and helped them place higher than any Mahomet team ever has at this invite.  He helped his team run the fastest top 5 and top 7 runner average ever at this invite.  He earned IL elite status at this invite from dyestatil.com.  Gabe went on to run 5th again for his team at the East Peoria Invitational.  He ran a 16:16.   Gabe's time earned him the 2nd fastest freshman time on this challenging course.  He helped his team win the invite.  Gabe also earned a medal in the invite by placing 17th.  Gabe broke 5 minute in the mile in practice earning himself a spot in our Old Dog club.  Gabe made his way onto the News-Gazette's prep cross country leaders list in October.  Gabe ran in the 15's again at the Metamora Invitational.  He ran a 15:47 to place 39th.  He earned a medal and helped his team win the invitational.  He also helped his team run the fastest top 7 average of any Mahomet team at this invitational.  Gabe's time earned him the 2nd highest spot on our team's fastest freshman list for the Metamora Invitational.  Gabe's time also is one of only 4 freshmen in the 44 year history of our program to run under 16:00.   Gabe ran well at the conference meet.  He helped his team win the conference championship for the first time in 28 years.  He placed 14th in the meet and only got beat by some of the strongest runners in the state.  He has helped our team earn a 2nd in the State ranking for the past 4 weeks.  Gabe ran a lifetime best at the Sectional meet with a time of 15:53.  This is the fastest 3 mile time for a Mahomet freshman at the Sectional meet.  He placed 4th for the team and helped them win the Sectional meet and qualify for State.  Gabe earned IL Elite status for his performance at the Sectional meet.  He earned a spot on the News-Gazette prep cross country leader list in November.  Gabe ran a solid race at the State meet.  The course seemed to be a little over 20 seconds slower than normal for most competitors due to the recent rains.  Gabe's time of 16:26 would have been about a 16:00 run on a dry course day.  Gabe placed 129th and ran 4th for his team for the day.  He ran the 3rd fastest time for a Mahomet freshman at the State meet.  He ended the season on the top of our team's letter points for freshmen.  Gabe earned our team's most valuable fresh/soph runner award for the 2013 season.  Gabe was selected by his teammates to earn the Brent Johnson true grit award.  He earned this award for training and racing with such intensity.
As a sophomore, Gabe returned with a solid base of 700 summer miles.  He earned a spot on our 700 mile club in 2014.  Gabe showed he was stronger than ever in early practices.  He was quicker to recover and mentally stronger.  Gabe had a great start to his race season when he ran a 16:19 in the Charleston Invitational.  Gabe earned a medal by placing 16th overall and 7th for the team.  Gabe helped his team run the fastest top 7 time we have ever run at the Charleston Invitational.  His time also earned him the 5th fastest spot on the fastest sophomore top times list for the Charleston Invitational.  He helped his team win the meet championship.  Gabe earned his way onto our sub 30 South Mahomet loop again as a sophomore.  Gabe
made his way onto the News Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders List in September.  Gabe ran a solid race at the Springfield Invitational despite working through an injury.  He ran a 17:03 earning a spot on our team's fastest times list at the Springfield Invitational.  He helped his team run the fastest top 7 team average we have ever run at this invitational.  He helped his team beat many State ranked teams to win the team title.  Gabe continued to work through his injury at the Peoria Notre Dame Invitational.  He ran another solid time of 17:02.  His time was fast enough to earn him a spot on our team's top fastest sophomore times at the PND invite.  Gabe helped his team place 2nd out of 68 teams.  They beat 19 State ranked teams and 68 nationally ranked teams in the process.  Gabe's 7th fastest time on the team for the season helped our team earn the 45th nationally ranked spot for this week.  Gabe ran in the 16s again at the East Peoria Invite where he ran a 16:48.  This was the 14th fastest sophomore time we have had at the race in 10 years.  Gabe helped his team earn a national ranking of 36th for the week.  Gabe made his way onto the News Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders List in October.  Gabe was a two year varsity letterman as a sophomore.  Gabe really did a good job running at the Metamora Invitational despite being injured.  Gabe worked his best in practice to get over his injury and wasn't able to shake it in time for the Metamora race.  Despite that Gabe ran a 17:13 and still ran the 16th fastest time we have had a sophomore run at this invite earning a spor on our team's fastest times list for the Metamora Invite.  Gabe raced at the Conference meet despite not being able to shake his injury.  Gabe ran a 17:41 to place 9th in the open race at the Conferenc meet.  He helped his team win the open race in a big way.  They had 8 of the top 10 runners in the open race showing how strong they were as a total team.  Gabe had a strong enough season that he earned a spot on our team's State meet roster.  Gabe made his way onto the News Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders List in November.
