Peoria Notre Dame Invitational:

Mahomet-Seymour placed 35th in the varsity race out of 72 teams represented.
Mahomet-Seymour placed 15th in the fresh/soph race.

Our team ran the 4th fastest overall team average we have had in the 19 years we have been at this invitational with a 17:13 average for our 16 runners.

Mathias Powell had a smart and tough race as he finished 3rd overall in a challenging field.  Mathias' 3rd place finish ties the highest we have had a Mahomet-Seymour runner ever place in this meet.  Jordan Johnson placed 3rd in 2000.  Mathias earned the respect of the State by running a 14:44.1 in the meet.  His time is one of the fastest times ever run by a Mahomet-Seymour runner in the nearly 50 years of our program.  It was his lifetime best 3 mile time which was great to see early in the season.

Bryson Keeble, Jonah Singer, Kyle Nofziger, and Joseph Scheele all broke into the 16s.

Our varsity team was comprised of Mathias Powell, Bryson Keeble, Nate Douglas, David Wilcoski, Peter Slezak, Karsten Waisath, and Grant Garrison.

Bryson ran 2nd for our team cracking into the 16s.  He had a 42 second improvement to make this happen.
Nate Douglas had the largest improvement of the day with 62 seconds.  He ran in the low 17s with a 17:21.
David Wilcoski had a great race after coming off an injury as he and his teammate Peter Slezak broke into the 17s with a 17:55 and 17:58.
Peter joined us from track and has quickly adapted to the longer distances.  He almost made it look easy.  He improved 40 seconds from his previous best.
Karsten Waisath and Grant Garrison were last minute additions to the varsity race after we had some sickness that opened up a spot.  They both ran well despite the pressure of joining such an intimidatingly large varsity race.  Karsten improved 41 seconds from his best to run a 19:26.

Our fresh/soph runners had a couple nice packs.
Jonah Singer, Kyle Nofziger, and Joseph Scheele really worked as a team the entire race.  They made each other better and as a result helped our team score.  These three are one of the very few freshmen ever to break into the 16s in almost 50 years of our program.  They ran the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th fastest times of our entire team for the day.  They also had 3 of the highest fresh/soph finishes we have had in the 19 years at being at this invitational.  Jonah had the 4th highest finish with 26th.  Kyle had the 5th highest finish with 28th.  Joseph had the 16th highest finish in 19 years with 52nd.  So many alumni, parents, and coaches commented on how mature these three ran and how great it was to see them working as a pack.  Jonah ran a 16:26.  Kyle ran a 16:26.  Joseph ran a 16:50.

Joe Taylor ran 4th for the fresh/soph team in his lifetime best of 18:08.  This was a 31 second improvement for the season.  We had another pack of three working together for over half the race.  Taylor Fan, Josh Wilcoski, and Avery Seaman worked together through the 1.5 mile mark.  Josh felt strong and pulled away to run a lifetime best of 19:22.  This was an improvement of 24 seconds.  Taylor Fan has done an incredible job coming off an injury.  He improved his previous best by 16 seconds to run a 19:42.  Avery Seaman rounded out of fresh/soph team with a 20:37.
