2018 News-Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders List in October
 

 

   As a freshman, Avery joins our team with junior high cross country and track experience.  Avery had a great summer of training before his freshman season.  He ran over 400 miles in the summer to earn our team's 400 mile club award.  He ran the 7th most amount of summer miles of any freshman we have had.  He opened up his freshman year with a time of 20:50 at the Charleston Invitational.  He placed 75th in the varsity race at the Charleston Invitational.  Avery had a huge improvement in his second race.  He cut off nearly a minute to run a 19:51.  He placed 29th in the Monticello triangular meet. Avery helped our fresh/soph team place 15th at the Peoria Notre Dame invitational.  He ran a 20:37 to place 328th in the race.  Avery had a big improvement at the East Peoria Invitational.  He ran 2nd for his fresh/soph team helping lead them to a 4th place team finish.  Avery ran a 18:36 for a season best.  It was a 75 second improvement from his previous season best.  He earned enough varsity letter points after the East Peoria Invite to earn his first high school varsity letter.  Avery ran strong enough to earn the 36th fastest spot on our team's fastest freshmen times list for the East Peoria Invitational. Avery earned a spot on the News-Gazette Prep Cross Country Leaders List in October.  Avery ran a 19:28 at the Metamora Invitational.  This was strong enough to earn the 36th spot on our team's fastest freshman times list at the Metamora Invitational.  Avery ran a 19:53 at the conference meet on a super hilly course.  He ran well showing he is a tough runner on even the most challenging courses.  He made the State meet roster for his freshman year.
 
   As a sophomore, he had a great summer of running.  He earned enough miles to join our 400 mile club. Avery opened up his season at the Peoria Notre Dame Invitational.  He ran a 21:52 which was a solid time after coming off an injury and also while wearing a cast.  He put himself in good position and was able to pull his teammates for the first half of the race.  Avery made a big improvement at the Normal U-High Invitational.  He cut off 39 seconds to run his season best time of 21:13.  This was fast enough to earn him the 48th spot on our team's fastest sophomore times list at the Normal U-High Invitational.  Avery cut off 42 seconds at the Metamora Invitational to run his season best.  He ran in the 20s for a 20:31.  Avery ran a 22:02 at the conference meet.  This was a good time for as challenging of a course as it was.  Avery showed great determination during the season working through injury and running with a cast.

   As a junior, Avery ran 400 miles in the summer earning our team's 400 mile club award.  He opened up his season at the Charleston Invitational with a 20:32.  He helped his team win the open race at the Charleston Invitational.  Avery showed great leadership throughout the season as he was often seen taking the younger runners under his wing.  He often gave them rides to practice and treated them like a good older brother should.  He showed great character by doing this.  Avery had a big improvement at the Monticello Invitational.   He broke into the 19s and ran a 19:53.  His 39 second improvement revealed his intensity.  Avery helped his team win the open race at the Monticello Invitational.  He earned a varsity letter his junior year.

    As a senior, Avery earned our team's winter captain award for his disciplined training.  Avery opened up his senior year with a giant improvement.  He ran a lifetime best of 18:05 at the Charleston Invitational.  Avery earned a spot on our team's fastest senior times list at the Charleston Invitational.  He went on to run a strong race on a challenging course at the Springfield Invitational.  He ran a competitive race and won the open race.  He won a medal for winning the meet and helped his open team place 2nd as a team out of 19 teams represented.  Avery earned a spot on the team's fastest senior times list at the Springfield Invitational.
