Jenny Johnson

Jenny was a 2010 Mahomet-Seymour High School Boys Cross Country Hall of Fame Inductee.

Jenny Johnson (now Jennifer Krueger) was the first female runner on an all boys squad in 1974.  Just a few years earlier in 1967, Kathryn Switzer was tackled by the well respected Boston Marathon race director in an attempt to preserve the sanctity of the most prestigious marathon in the world by not allowing a female to run in it.
In 1973, Title IX had just been passed to give females an equal opportunity in sports.  However, in reality, girls sports still weren't treated equally.

Mahomet-Seymour and Jenny Johnson were ahead of the times.  Jenny ran in 1974 and Mahomet-Seymour had their first all-girl's team in 1981.  The Olympics wouldn't even let females run the marathon until 1984 and even then with much controversy.  It would be hard to imagine the pressure of being the first female to join an all male sport's team.

Jenny demonstrated a tremendous amount of personal strength to break the barriers and to open up the doors for females in the sport.  Jenny was quite a successful runner going on to qualify for state in track in the 1600 and 3200.

Jenny also helped break the barriers at the college level as she was on the first women's cross country team at Cleveland State University in 1980.
